Broken pole
Angelica Bengtsson,
A Swedish track and field athlete who specializes in pole vault
She is a two time gold medalist. One at the 2009 World Youth Championship and the other in 2010 World Junior Championship in Athletics
In a competition where she was attempting to clear the national record,
Pole in hand she took off
And just when she tried to jump,
Disaster struck as her pole broke
This was nothing short of every pole vaulter's worst nightmare
It was supposed to be her last attempt
One could only imagine the choatic emotions playing through her mind
Broken pole
Possible bodily injury
Failed attempts....
Thankfully she was not injured and was given the chance to another attempt immediately
She quickly borrowed a fellow competitor's pole and despite the fear, heightened expectations and the piercing gaze of thousands of faces she scaled through and made the jump
She broke the Swedish pole vault record
So your last attempt ended in a mudsliding flop and for that you've beat yourself over and over
And due to fear or discouragement have placed an indefinite pause to your pursuit?
It's the last lap of the year
Declutter your mind of every negativity
Pick yourself up
Dust your garments
Try again
You might just be at the door of your breakthrough
Failure is not in the falling
Or how many times you fall
But in your refusal to get up and try again when you fall
Today presents you with another golden opportunity
No excuse will suffice
There is no stopping you
No regrets
Thank you... I will.
