THE BLISS CALLED PEACE!!!

It began like every normal day, I was at work when I got a call from one of my neighbours asking if I was home and how things were and telling me that some “MEN” took off from our junction to burn down some police stations in town.

Well, I started calling my wife for over a thousand times and she didn’t pick my calls. That was when the adrenaline rush began.I ran into my car and sped off with only one destination on my mind – Home.
I really cant imagine what was going on in my mind as I drove home  even though at the back of my mind  I had this knowing which I really cant explain that all was well, but then the humanity and frail side which always wanted to know beyond a shadow of a doubt had set my mind on autopilot.

Driving past the only way that led to my house, I saw police barricade and quickly drove past them before they’d completely cordon off the area. I saw people motioning me to leave the road and park at one side but I didn’t even hear what they said.It was after like 20 seconds that I knew why – bullets were flying like rain as I drove past the bullet haze on the police side and on I drove towards the side were the “MEN” stood and were exchanging the gunfire with the police officers.

Imagine my surprise when I passed through this torrential bullet rains and got home only to find my wife and kids playing happily outside and only one thought crossed my mind – Ignorance is bliss.

As we mark one year after the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests and the lives that were lost that period, as citizens, we should work in a concerted effort to ensure that above all odds peace reign supreme.
My heart leaped with joy when I read that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was eventually brought to court because it signified atleast a few weeks of peace in the Southeast region of Nigeria where the economy has been brought to a standstill since he was taken into custody while hoping that events don’t spiral out of control.

For those of us who witnessed the chaos that almost slipped into anarchy in the aftermath of the EndSARS protests in 2020, it is my sincere hope that we wont see a repetition because indeed peace is constantly under rated.
