TWO MINUTES MAN!

To say I was shell shocked reading about the decision of  The OSCARS Governors as regards the Will Smith’s slapping saga would be an understatement.

Will Smith, one of the golden boys of Hollywood, who we all grew up watching and loving. Remember ‘Bad Boys’,Prince of Bel-Air? How about ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’?  Good memories right?

He sure kept us glued to our Tvs as the good actor and made us all smile.

How about his character behind the camera? Lovable, charismatic, funny, kind, family centred…..

Will Smith has been on our screens for decades, painstakingly building his career from nothing to great fame until he became a household name.

All it took was just a few minutes of losing control of his emotions to burn the career he spent years, blood , sweat and tears building, to the ground on a night that was supposed to be one of the biggest in his career.

Every media outlet went crazy, everyone trying to outdo the other with the news. His character, life, marriage, career and everything around him was dissected. Imagine the media backlash, his emotional state of mind, the tension in his home. He tendered apologies over and over alright, resigned from the OSCARS as well, but the deed was done. His recent movies that were to be premiered were all put on hold and then The OSCARS pulled the big gun by severing all ties with him as well as a slam of a 10years ban from her activities for good measures.

A crude joke was made about Will’s wife by Chris Rock and in his bid to defend his wife, Will walked up the OSCARS stage while Chris was still trying to present and gave him a slap but Will was the one shredded by the world.  How did the aggrieved party turn around to become the one stoned by all and the offender defended? It was all in the way both men handled their emotions.

So many destinies have been sacrificed on this altar of losing control. From marriages to employment opportunities and even help. Are you trying to say you’ve never lost control of your emotions? I’d be a liar if I should say so, in short, everyone of us has at some point in our lives but imagine if everyone struck out the way Will did whenever we got emotional or hurt by someone.

Well, the lesson is simple; guard your emotions, do not let it rob you.
