Fundamental Human Rights
We as a nation have the Fundamental Human Rights enshrined in the constitution because we seek to protect everyone without any form of discrimination.
Well, yesterday, a politician's son (I choose not to mention) was refused to eat at a branch of KFC because he is disabled. Even when his wife and sibling tried to reason with the manager, they were bluntly told that 'no wheelchairs' were allowed in the eatery.
After so much raised voices and words thrown back and forth, they had to leave the eatery.
Well, today we heard the government sealed the place up and said it would only be reopened when such conditions were lifted and an apology tendered to the victim.
Some people began throwing shades that the matter is only gaining public or government notice because of the person in question.
However, imagine for a minute that the said victim was you!
Or your child
Or your loved one
I'm sure the song would be different.
No one deserves to be made to feel less of himself and most especially people with disabilities.
God knows their lives are already tough with the physical challenges they face and the societal traumas, now we want to add one or two local laws to just make them suffer the more?
I look forward to government making special laws and providing social amenities specially for disabled people as it is abroad.
