Get help.

We've heard it recommended severally that couples should take time away from kids and everyone, and just spend time alone.
Hubby and I decided to try it out and on our second night we woke up to the sound of someone trying to gain access into our room. We could visibly see the door handle moving up and down severally. We stayed awake for the rest of the night, tried calling the police, who showed up much later in the morning.
That marked the end of our stay in the hotel but didn't mark the end of the trauma for me.
My period didn't show up until three months after.
We relocated abroad and almost a year later, I thought I heard the sound of someone by my door.
Hubby was at work, kids were in school, I was home alone trying to take a nap.
For that week and the preceding week, I jumped at every sound.
If for any reason I stayed up late, it's trouble. Overnight I became a vigilante cos all I could think of was the people trying to gain entrance to our hotel room way back.
Didn't know I was this deeply traumatized.

This is where I love the exposure abroad. They always seek and encourage getting professional help.
People suffer from all forms of abuse or bad experiences that leaves them traumatized but carry on like nothing is happening.
You were raped, or abused, suffered ill treatment, suffered loss of business, job or loved ones, suffered heartbreak, accident, illness, all these and more can leave a person with post traumatic disorder.

Get help if you perceive you're suffering from any trauma. It doesn't just help you, it also helps those around you.
There's no trauma that is little or negligible.
The earlier, the better cos you never know how much damage delay can cause.
