#ENDBADGOVERNMENT!

Today makes for the Day 2 of the #Endbadgovernment protest going on in Nigeria.

It's with great dismay that I've watched several videos making rounds of the police opening fire at protesters with either live ammunitions, teargas or  water spray or a combination of all of these.

This strategy has never worked and I doubt if it will ever work. Intimidation, suppression or any other method of brute force has never worked. It didn't yield any result in the era of successive military rulers and has no place in a democracy of the 21st century.

The global best practices has always been for the government to provide police as security. But in most African countries the reverse has always been the case. The police is charged with an order to shoot at protesters even when the demands of the protest will favour the police, isn't this a travesty?

In the next phase the government will employ the services of hoodlums who will be told to maim, kill and destroy properties of peaceful protesters so as to give the government an excuse to repeat the massacre they did on 20th October, 2020.

I appeal to all peaceful protesters to be extremely cautious. Be convicted of the reason why you are protesting and abide by all the rules governing peaceful protests around the world.

The government can do better. There was ample time for the government to negotiate, shift ground on all the bad policies that have been setting the country backwards, reverse the price of fuel- after all the lie that 'subsidy is gone' has been proven beyond reasonable doubt so what is the goal of the subsidy? The floating of the Naira was another terrible policy, especially as the CBN is still using foreign reserves to peg the Naira.

In all, if the government is sincere, the solution is available in abundance.

In all you do, Stay Safe!
