Sir/Ma, Do you know that it's not everyone telling you stuffs that need advice? Some come to talk to you just to vent cos they don't have an outlet Some talk because they're looking for solution Some talk cos it's an opportunity to stylishly brag without saying it directly While others use the guise of seeking advice to wash their dirty linens or spill what they know about others. Had a live experience in the office. A lady who's newly employed came to another lady who's been in the company for years to get some work related advice. The more the lady tried to give the advice the more the other one told her of several properties she had where she was coming from, her goals, accomplishments and all. Mind you this wasn't the first person she was meeting in the office for same 'advice,' It didn't take much to know she was looking for a chance to brag to everyone. Before you waste your saliva and resources trying to help. Look at the perso...

Who's voice are you hearing?

Life is full of challenges and it seems things are getting more crazy as time goes by. I remember sitting in an electronic shop withy friend years back as she cried out her soul. Her younger sister was a banker, happily married to a 'HANDsome' dude working in the National Assembly. Her elder sister was married as well with twin and was living very good. She couldn't help but wonder why her own case was different? A graduate, beautiful and homely, good character, church worker, focused, past 30yrs but still living with her parents and working in the electronic shop as a sales girl out of frustration; things weren't just adding up for her. I took my time to soeak courage, strength and hope into the core of her being. I always took out time to go stay with her in the shop, crack her up and get her mind off thing. Today, amongst her siblings, she's got one of the best marriage, her husband practically worships the ground she walks on, she's blessed with ...

Benefit of the doubt

Image
My colleagues and I were discussing the story of the girl who bullied another and a particular colleague held vehemently that it was the fault of the parents the girl turned out that way. I tried my best to make her see that her opinion wasn't necessarily the truth. Haven't you seen parents who did their best to enforce the best of training on their kids and yet they turned out crazy? Haven't you see homely and calm parents with notoriously irredeemable kids? This post is not just about parenting, or kids or making excuses. It's a post about giving people the benefit of the doubt. It's so easy to jump into conclusions or pass judgments once negative news about another person comes to light. Somehow it just seems we have all the answers and solutions to the challenge the person is facing or we come up with very intelligent things that should or could've been done. My Dear, life is deeper than we know. Just pray not to find yourself in that helpless po...

Go all out!

Whether you like it or not, you definitely must've heard of the comedian, NASBOI who entertains by making very funny skits. Few months back, he released his first single. Nigerians woke up one day to this song. Nobody ever took him for a singer, not to mention writing such danceable song. Now here's where it gets interesting. Nigerians loved and welcomed the song but that in no way made NASBOI rest. He immediately took to promoting the song. He began making funny dance videos of and with top Nigerian celebrities promoting the song and that's how the song spread like wild fire. This week, NASBOI dropped another banging song. And once again, we have a very very danceable song. And he has taken to actors and fellow skit makers promoting the track by dancing to it in videos. And now, it's almost like everywhere you turn, that song is playing! My message today is, SELL YOURSELF!!! Nobody knows or cares what you do but you're the one who will market yourself e...

Missed opportunities

Image
We were all enjoying the weekend at home one day when some people showed up from UNLEVER said they got to know about my baby brother and would love to sign him up as the face for their products. My brother was such a very very beautiful baby.   Back in the days when everywhere and everyone lived a communal life, neighbours would come carry my baby brother and the only time they brought him back was for mum to breastfeed him whenever they perceived he was hungry. He was such a cutie and he never cried or bothered anyone. Well, my parents said they'd get back to them and that's how a neighbour planter the seed to my parents that my brother was probably going to get kidnapped or some sort of crazy thing. Bottom line, my parents should never agree. Hmmmmm that's how my brother missed that life transforming opportunity. I've heard of several instances of where parents prevented their children from lifetime opportunities because of ignorance, fear, anger, pride or...

ANGER!

Image
What positive fruits has anger yielded? My colleagues were dissatisfied by something the company did. Some seniors in the company adviced they all write a mail expressing themselves. They chose violence instead. To think that what they were angry about wasn't a right but bonuses given at the company's discretion. They took stuffs from the company Barely worked when they showed up and some went the extra mile of not showing up at all, leading to a great loss for the company. These same people recently applied to the company for one thing or the other, like sponsoring of their visas. If you were the management of the company, what will you do? Anger has leads to nothing but loss, hurt and pain. You never know how far actions taken in anger can go. There isn't even any gratification that comes from acting up. A guy was mad at his supervisor and walked out on him while the supervisor was still talking. He left work and went home. Next thing you know, he was sacked. ...

What next should be banned?

Few weeks ago, occassioned by the continous downward spiral of the Naira, the Nigerian government came up with the lofty idea of banning Binance and tagged the app the cause of the depreciation of the Naira, they estimated without any records that some billions of Naira or was it dollars? are passing through the app. They demanded 10 billion as payment and when Binance refused they kidnapped (or was it arrested?) the executives that came to discuss with the government.   But that's not the issue. They went ahead to pillage Nigerian foreign reserves and whatever money they can lay their hands on and started selling to their own BDCs in a bid to fix the price of the Naira. Every right thinking person knows it will fall like a pack of cards over time. Well, they increased interests rates, which means manufacturers will pay more for loans and as a consequence,  they had to increase the prices of their goods. As if that was not enough, they increased import duty. c...
